CLIMATECH

Starting Point

I started by researching what aspects and consequences of climate change I wanted to attempt to create a product for, as well how I would advertise them in todays market. I created the chart below to have a more succinct idea of what the overall plan for this project would look like. I choose 4 categories to focus on rising flood levels, rising temperatures, increase in severity of storms and rising CO2 levels. For each one of the mentioned categories my goal is to create a product that would address a mundane issue each consequence creates.

I decided I wanted to also create a brand for these products to attempt to create some conceptual and aesthetic symmetry,  and that would be the first step in this project.  I also wanted to choose 1 category to focus on for the initial prototype, so I chose to work with flooding and create the first product that would then be the focus point of the first round of advertisements created.

Seeing as the advertisements are the main visual for this project, I thought having a website to host all the pictures and mockups would be a good way to both display the work but also allow for a fictitious e-commerce setup to allow for more information to be included with things such as price, materials and the statistics that point towards each respective product becoming a reality.

The Brand

I decided to create a brand to be  able to create a distinct look and feel to add conceptual and aesthetic symmetry to each of the products. I came up with the brand name Climatech as a representation of the technology being created to adapt to climate change (climate technology = Climatech) using a simple but clear and modern colour palette of a deep green to hint towards the concept of environment, as well as white, black and a darker grey an intriguing colour palette is created  comparable to other high end tech brands with simple colour palettes such as Apple, Facebook and Sony who all use simple colour palettes with recognizable accents .

Beginning Brand

I created a quick brand guide that has the colour choices, primary & secondary colour palettes as well as the logo in a multitude of possible colour schemes. This was an initial attempt to get something on the page to begin to mould with more researched design choices that are cohesive with my target audience and intended message. I was attempting to go for a serious and professional look to help juxtapose the ridiculous nature of the products this brand will create.

The logo is simply a "C" & "L" that have been combined, but will be revisited upon further iterations. The plan is to create a more complete brand presence, with things like a mission & positioning statement, key & valued attributes as well as a more extensive look into colour, logo & typography choices.

Self-Rising Flood Boot

(FLOOT)

This first product has been created as a response to the threat of  the increasing frequency of flooding that will be experienced within the next 50-100 years according to NASA’s predictions. This boot is designed to sense flood levels and automatically rise up to keep the wearers foot out of the water and help them maneuver the flood waters. The bottoms are made up of closed-cell sponge rubber pads that allow for lightweight durability,  ability to absorb shocks and dampen impacts, considered a high-performance cushion and also offers exceptional resistance to UV, weather, ozone, elevated temperatures, and more.

Initial Ads

I started by creating a few different options for possible ads. The main goal here was finding the voice that Climatech would use for the ads. I was trying to find the balance of a clean and professional look that blends the ads into the current ad landscape but a vulgar/ignorant voice in an attempt at creating a very "laisser faire" attitude that would cause viewers to take a second glance and captivate their attention.

I then went on to see how the look and style of the initial ads could translate to a smaller medium such as a poster. I was still trying out different phrases and compositions but keeping with the overall established brand look.
